Rocío Osborne is the sixth generation of the Osborne family. This business group, an iconic part of Spanish culture, has been dedicated to the production of wines, spirits and food products for over two centuries. Rocío is the company’s current Brand Ambassador, in charge of communicating the values of all the brands in the Osborne portfolio across international markets, and of course, recruiting Montecillo fans from all four corners of the world.
Although in 1975 Rocío had not even been born, it was a year that shaped the rest of her life. Her parents got married, and although it would be five more years before she arrived on the scene, she remembers with emotion that, «It was the year that the winery in Fuenmayor where we currently produce Montecillo was opened, and it was the first vintage with grapes harvested by the Osborne family.»
We should not forget that in the 1970s, Spain started to open up to the rest of the world, and it was then that a new era in gastronomy began, one that we still enjoy today. In terms of wine, wines from Rioja were in first place, with lower alcohol levels than Sherry, but, of course, things were happening outside Spain as well. In particular, changes to the still wines that were being produced in France, Italy, USA, Chile and Argentina.
«I’m lucky to be able to travel the world and bring Rioja and Montecillo to consumers that often live thousands of kilometres away,» explains Rocío, as she goes on to explain that it is always a pleasure and privilege for her to explain how special Montecillo is. «I always have my suitcase packed ready to go, I’m committed to recruiting Montecillo fans the world over.»
And what did you start in 1975?
