Variety

100% Graciano

The grapes that went into our Viña Monty Graciano Reserva wine evolved well throughout the entire growth cycle. The vintage stood out for the great balance between the acidity and alcohol, its aromatic qualities and excellent phenolic ripeness, which gives the wine great depth and persistence.

This Graciano wine brings together grapes from two vineyards in Rioja Alta and Rioja Oriental. The one in Rioja Alta is in Cenicero, at 440 meters altitude and has chalky soil. The other vineyard is in Rioja Oriental, near a bend in the Ebro River, at 360 meters altitude, where the climate is much more Mediterranean as compared to the Rioja Alta, and the soils contain a lot more clay.

Testimonials

It’s unusual to find a varietal Graciano in Rioja from two different sub-regions, but that's the case here, with the Cenicero base complemented by 8% from the Rioja Oriental. The combination works really well, with 75% new wood and gentle handling softening the grape’s rougher edges. Deeply coloured and spicy, yet without any gruffness. 2023-29
